BEYONCE “MY HOUSE” REVIEW

Written by:

‘My House’ is the latest release from Beyonce to celebrate the first week of ‘Renaissance: A Film By Beyonce’.

The new tour documentary follows Beyonce on her tour, which started in May this year, and includes a brand new track from the star during the end credits. The song comes straight in with a certain power to it and grips you and only becomes exceedingly more empowering as the track goes on.

Co-written and produced with The Dream, this anthem evokes feelings that you can only get from listening to Beyoncé. The lyrical content in the first half of the song shows the singer rightfully bragging about her success with growling vocals over the sound of synths.

Towards the second half of the track, the baseline kicks in and it becomes what sounds like an entirely different song, and yet it still fits well sonically with the first half of the song whilst also keeping it fresh and exciting. Similarly to a lot of the work on Renaissance, the song structure is unconventional with no clear chorus and just goes to show that Beyonce is past the point of needing to make commercial music to gain success. Having the opportunity to experiment with a new sound has allowed the performer to secure her legacy as an innovator in pop music.

There is one line in the song which sums up the entire feeling of the Renaissance era perfectly: “Let’s heal the world, one beautiful action at a time”. The only criticism I have to give is that it was not released along with the original project as it would have made for a phenomenal live performance.

‘My House’ is Beyoncé’s way of telling us that she has nothing to prove to anyone anymore, not that we ever doubted it.
